MUSIC

Hummingbird Villa is equipped with Sonos audio technology and specialised outdoor speakers to allow you to play quality music.

We please ask that you do not play music too loudly, or too late at night!

Please see information below for playing music in our different areas:

Installing Sonos

Outdoor Kitchen Music

If you are comfortable using mobile phone apps then we encourage you to use the 'Sonos S2' app - use the download links shown here for Android and Apple phones. There is further information below about using Sonos. But also there is information below for playing audio without the app...

The simplest way to play audio in the outdoor kitchen is through the television, or using Alexa.

Music through the Television

Use the TV System guide to access the television in the 'Nectar Bar' (outdoor kitchen). You can launch apps like 'Spotify' and 'Youtube' to play your favourite music. By using these television apps, all audio is automatically transmitted to Sonos and out of the speakers on top of the fridge. The white 'Proofvision' remote control can be used to change the Sonos / speakers volume by pointing it at the TV and using the volume buttons. Don't forget: you must also ensure the volume is also turned up on the 'App' remote control too!

If you still cannot hear the audio from the television apps, this may be because someone was playing music directly using Sonos or Alexa. In this case use the app remote and turn the power off and on again - this should 'push' the audio into Sonos and force it to listen to the television. If you have the Sonos app, once you have selected 'Nectar Bar TV Curacao' as your room, you can use the 'music note' icon at the bottom and choose 'Line-in' and then select 'Audio Component: Nectar Bar TV Curacao' to hear all audio from the TV.

Music from Alexa

You can ask Alexa to play music and it will automatically play on the Outdoor Kitchen Sonos / speakers. Alexa must be plugged in for this to work. You can say in English "Alexa, play {song}". Our favourite is: "Alexa, play Hummingbird Villa" - this is a series of songs about the villa. We also like "Alexa, play BBC Radio 2".

You can also play music in the outdoor kitchen directly using Sonos (see below).

In the 'Bird Nest' (the corner area with the loungers) or
in the Outdoor Terrace

In these areas you can control the audio using the wall plate shown here:

The up / down buttons control volume. The small middle circle will choose from our favourite tunes. The other buttons start / stop / forward the audio.

Using the Sonos app you can connect these rooms to other rooms. For example you can hear the audio that is playing on the Nectar Bar TV, such as a football game or music.

In the Lounge in the Main House

Music from Alexa

You can ask Alexa to play music and it will automatically play on the Lounge Sonos speaker in front of the TV. Alexa must be plugged in for this to work. You can say in English "Alexa, play {song}". Our favourite is: "Alexa, play Hummingbird Villa" - this is a series of songs about the villa. We also like "Alexa, play BBC Radio 2".

You can also play music in the lounge directly using Sonos (see below).

Sonos Further Information

Using the Sonos app provides the highest levels of control for music around Hummingbird Villa. We trust guests to use the Sonos system, and not change the underlying settings, play music too loud, or leave it in a strange situation for other guests. Please stay away from the settings menu!

Here are some useful tips:

1. If you're not familiar with Sonos check out the useful official guide

2. Use the 9. Browse button (see above guide) and choose 'Line in' if you want to hear the audio from the Nectar Bar TV. Remember that app volume will also need to be audible (using the app remote control if needed)

3. We often connect the Bird Nest area to the Nectar Bar area in the Sonos app so you can hear what is playing on the TV, and have the same music coming in multiple directions. You can do this using the 7. Room Selector button whilst playing music, or use the 10. System Button to group rooms (note: these buttons are shown in the above guide!).
